An imaginative and somewhat disturbed young girl fantasizes about evil creatures and other oddities to mask her insecurities while growing up in rural Australia. Celia is a tale of lost innocence set during a long hot summer in 1950's Australia. Seen through refreshingly non-sentimental eyes, it stylishly evokes the surreal childhood world of rituals, games and gangs and the incomprehensible nature of adults.

The original title of this film is "Celia". Unfortunately, the distributors in UK decided to "market" it as a horror, using sensational posters and taglines, making it look like crude childsploitation. It was even worse in USA, where it was crassly re-titled "Celia - Child of Terror" (ignoring the director's objections). The result was to put off the film's intended adult audience, while disappointing horror fans who felt duped because they have been coerced to buy or rent something close to Jaromil Jireš's "Valerie and Her Week of Wonders" or Neil Jordan's "The Company of Wolves" instead of an “evil kid” straight horror. Critics compared "Celia" to “Heavenly Creatures” (1994) or British films like “Paperhouse” (1988) and "Afraid of the Dark" (1991) about children's refusal or inability to clearly demarcate the “real” from the “unreal”.
