Two countries race to have the first successful landing on Mars.

This is the rarest one of the couple of Russian scams Roger Corman performed in the early sixties. He "purchased" two Russian movies - "Niebo Zovyot" and "Planeta Bur" - and ordered his grease monkeys to cut/edit them to the American market. This "Battle Beyond the Sun" is the final result of the job he handed Francis Ford Coppola to do with "Niebo Zovyot". Coppola accepted an associate producer’s credit, but hid the rest of his involvement behind the pseudonym "Thomas Colchart".

Coppola completely reversed the original Russian communist-good-capitalist-bad plot, which was a story about a race to Mars between good and gallant Russian and evil and incompetent American astronauts. In the American version, everything is reversed, and the main work to achieve this was done in redubbing. Its a comedy by itself just to observe the lip synching "job". Sometimes, someone keep talking with his mouth closed, or start to talk before opening it. There isnt a single actor here that does not look 100% Russian, so you can imagine how authentical this Coppola version looks.

And, the monsters... You need to see them to believe.
